Rajasthan is among the states having High Maternal and Neonatal Mortality. ‘SUMA’ Rajasthan White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood was launched in 2002 to create social awareness and work towards action and advocacy for reduction of high maternal and neonatal mortality in the state . CHETNA is secretariat of SUMA since 2002. This Alliance is formed of Civil Society Organisations and UN agencies, International NGOs, Government Departments and individuals are special invitees to the alliance.
Some of the major achievements and contributions of SUMA since 2002 are as follows:
Implemented maternal health entitlements project in Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Rajsamand districts and reached out to more than 500 women and family members.
Organised maternal health public dialogues to seek action on women’s grievances on accessing maternal health services.
Implemented Social Accountability efforts for Maternal Health which focused on building capacities of partners, assessing health services and developing citizens report cards, building capacities of women’s groups and Village Health Nutrition and Sanitation committees, monitoring of Village Health and Nutrition Days and engaging with Gram Sabhas.
Advocated for release of state level guidelines for Rogi Kalyan Samitis/Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society
Initiated Advocacy for Quality Maternal Health Services in the state of Rajasthan in July 2015.
